David Warren, Professor of Printmaking, Henderson State University
This series of fine art prints are based on my imagination and dreams. I am inspired by artists, artwork, psychology, environmental issues, and myth. I create my own personal mythology by regrouping thoughts and images inspired by my prodigious memory. Printmaking is my preferred media of expression.
Carl Jung defines a prodigious memory as, "all psychic material that lies below the threshold of consciousness." Jung also used the term "archetypes", to describe the symbolism in dreams that permeate the collective unconscious.
The intaglio plates include etching, aquatint, and drypoint. The plates are produced in variable editions utilizing traditional black and the à la poupée method of applying color to a plate. The relief blocks include linoleum cuts printed in black and woodcuts created with the reduction color technique.
